It has been quite a while since Sony and Insomniac Games announced their next Marvel video game adaptation, Wolverine. A recent update on the game’s release has been shared, and PS5 players are sharing their concerns, as it seems it’s further down the road than some initially expected.
When will Insomniac Games’ Wolverine release?
As seen on a recent PlayStation presentation (H/T Stealth40k via X), Sony shares a slide of each fiscal year along with the “tentpole” releases that came out in those years. For example, FY22 had God of War Ragnarok, FY23 had Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, etc. At the very end of this timeline, it shows Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Wolverine as “upcoming” tentpole titles from the company. Without a date attached, this implies that the earliest we would see these two games is FY26.
As the poster points out, Wolverine was announced 4 years ago with a teaser trailer, and nothing has been formally revealed since. This has sparked some concern from fans, as they’ve been waiting to see a glimpse of this game for a long time.
“They should focus less on tentpole titles and more on changing their development structure from top-down,” says an X user replying to the post. “Currently, as it stands, their teams are too independent and kind of like their own companies, this causes bad things. One team shuts down, and you lose multiple IP.”
“Meanwhile, Nintendo has Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, Pokémon Legends Z-A, Drag X Drive, Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment, Splatoon Raiders, Kirby Air Riders incoming, plus surely more unrevealed games,” another X user points out. “Depending mostly on AAA games wasn’t Sony’s best idea.”
As of right now, it is still uncertain when Sony and Insomniac Games will launch Wolverine. Let us know all your thoughts in the comments below.
