The Order: 1886’s Ambitious Trilogy Canceled Despite Vision

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that a sequel to The Order: 1886 never came to fruition due to the mixed reception of the 2015 PS4 shooter. Now, it’s been revealed that The Order: 1886 was actually intended as the first entry in a planned trilogy set to continue the story in later years.

According to Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya (in a French interview with VGC), the follow-ups The Order: 1891 and The Order: 1899 were set to expand the steampunk narrative in London, featuring bigger combat sequences and possibly a multiplayer mode.

A sequel was reportedly already in early development before Sony pulled the plug. Developer Ready At Dawn, acquired by Meta in 2020 and shut down last year, had even prepared a detailed 10-page pitch outlining new features. The trilogy was envisioned to eventually take the series beyond its Victorian setting, exploring the 20th century. However, the cancellation halted the studio’s ambitious plans for The Order.
