Resident Evil 9 Might Not Be Revealed During State of Play

Resident Evil 9 rumors have been swirling for a while now. Understandably, many are expecting it to be revealed during tomorrow’s State of Play due to Capcom’s recent history of unveiling Resident Evil games during PlayStation’s presentations. However, according to a new rumor, it seems this may not be the case.

According to noted Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, they claim a multi-year marketing deal for the survival horror series between Capcom and Sony ended in 2024. Capcom reportedly chose not to renew the deal and will instead choose where games are announced on a title-by-title basis.

“Capcom and Sony had a multi-year deal for Resident Evil marketing on games above a certain budget that ended in 2024 that Capcom chose not to renew,” said Dusk Golem. “Doesn’t mean can’t be at Sony, hear they have a great relationship, but it’s not a requirement anymore. Title-by-Title basis.”

This information comes from an initial post on X (formerly Twitter) from Dusk Golem, where they speculate when Resident Evil 9 will be revealed. The insider believes the next mainline entry of Capcom’s horror franchise will happen during Summer Game Fest’s presentation. They do iterate that they do not know Capcom’s plans, and it is just a “potential way they might play it.”

In terms of the Resident Evil 9 reveal plans, this is just speculation, so take it with a grain of salt. It does seem like a lot of signs are pointing to a reveal happening this week, but we won’t really know until all the livestreams come to a close.

The PlayStation State of Play begins the festivities tomorrow, June 4, at 2 p.m. PT. Summer Game Fest‘s live presentation is on June 6 at 2 p.m. PT.
