PlayStation May Not Be Planning A Major Showcase This Summer

PlayStation will not host a major showcase this summer. For the first time in five years, Sony seems to be dropping out during the traditional summer gaming season. In past years, E3 and Summer Game Fest were the regular stage for PlayStation to make big announcements.

This comes from insider Jeff Grubb on his show, Game Mess Mornings.

The PS5 remains technically impressive, but Sony rarely really shows that potential. Moreover, developers continue to release games for the PS4. As a result, the new generation does not seem to be fully utilized. The PS5 is expected to quietly complete its life cycle. Still, this generation counts only a limited number of major exclusives for now. Insider John Harken hinted that we should not expect a showcase or State of Play this summer.

Should the rumor be true, it will be the first time since 2019 that Sony will not host a summer event. Microsoft and other publishers will, however, be present with announcements. PlayStation could possibly still show something small during Summer Game Fest, but fans should not expect a grand spectacle. For this year, Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei are still planned. What comes next remains a mystery for now. Some are hoping for footage of Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
