Despite Sony seemingly cutting down on its live-service initiative, a new job posting suggests one of PlayStation‘s most beloved studios is working on a multiplayer project. The studio in question is Insomniac Games, and fans are already worried.
Insomniac Games’ multiplayer project has fans worried
A recent Insomniac Games job posting for a Designer sparked the concern. While everything seems ordinary, there is one line within the description that worries fans: “The candidate will work with design, engineering, art, and animation teams to create varied and compelling mission experiences, from initial block out to final playable content for both single and multiplayer games.”
Essentially, the word “multiplayer” was mentioned. Given PlayStation’s recent history with live-service and multiplayer games still in mind, some players are puzzled as to why the studio would work on a multiplayer game.
“Insert how many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?!,” reads one comment from the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit.
“Stick to single player bro, I beg of you,” reads another comment.
“Awful news,” reads another comment. “Why is Sony so desperate for a multiplayer hit while the rest of the industry begins to turn away? Insomniac makes single player experiences, let them continue and use one of the other failure acquisitions to churn out your shit attempts and leave your devs that built a house on single player experiences alone to keep adding on to that house.”
While the job posting mentions multiplayer, the posting does say that this role pertains to both single-player and multiplayer games. It is unknown if this is for two separate projects or one project with both single-player and multiplayer elements.
It should be noted that there was a Spider-Man multiplayer project at Insomniac Games previously, but it was eventually cancelled. It is unknown what this project could be, but some speculate that this will be tied to Marvel’s X-Men.
