MindsEye Dev Claims Negative Reactions Are Paid Attacks

Controversy is swirling around MindsEye, the upcoming open-world action-thriller from Build a Rocket Boy. During a recent Q&A on Discord, co-CEO Mark Gerhard alleged that some of the negative commentary circulating online about the game is part of a deliberate, paid campaign.

When asked if he believes the backlash is being funded, Gerhard didn’t mince words: “100%. And it’s not hard to guess by whom.” While he didn’t name names, many interpret this as a thinly veiled jab at Take-Two Interactive — former employer of studio founder Leslie Benzies, the ex-producer behind Grand Theft Auto.

Gerhard later clarified that he wasn’t referring to genuine gamer feedback, but rather what he believes is an organized effort to sabotage the game and its developers. “It’s easy to spot the bots and repetitive messages in our content threads,” he added, pointing to signs of coordinated smear tactics.

MindsEye is shaping up to be an ambitious narrative-driven experience set in a near-future metropolis, Redrock City. Players will step into the role of Jacob Diaz, a man entangled in a high-tech conspiracy involving AI, rogue military forces, and mysterious implants. Built using the same tools as the studio’s UGC platform Everywhere,

MindsEye launches on June 10, priced at $59.99, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, both physically and digitally.
