Naughty Dog studio head and director Neil Druckmann has teased that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will feature the “most deep gameplay” the studio has ever delivered.
Speaking in an interview with Last Stand Media (via PC Gamer), Druckmann said:
“I’m very, very excited about this game — maybe more excited than I’ve ever been. It’s really cool and has the most deep gameplay we’ve ever created. I can’t wait to show more.”
While he didn’t elaborate on what exactly “deep gameplay” means, the statement hints at a possible shift or evolution in Naughty Dog’s traditionally cinematic design approach. Intergalactic was first revealed during The Game Awards 2024 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
The game follows Jordan, a deadly bounty hunter who tracks her target to the remote planet Sempiria, which has been cut off from the rest of the galaxy for centuries. A fictional religion will also play a key role in the story — a bold choice that may spark discussion among fans.
There’s no confirmed release date yet, but current reports suggest Intergalactic may not launch before 2027. Additionally, Druckmann confirmed that Naughty Dog is also working on a second, unannounced project. Rumors suggest it’s not The Last of Us: Part III and that Shaun Escayg (Uncharted: The Lost Legacy) is involved as director.
