Things are going from bad to worse for the people employed by EA. Cliffhanger Games has just been shut down and their Black Panther game cancelled, but if that wasn’t bad enough, an insider is reporting that Codemaster’s main headquarters is also going to be closed.
The source of this news is eXtas1s, an insider with a decent track record when it comes to Xbox. Outside of that, his record is spottier, so I strongly suggest grabbing a handful of salt.
According to eXtas1s, he has learned that around 400 more layoffs will hit EA. This will include “the complete closure of Codemasters’ main headquarters”. Codemasters suffered a massive blow recently when EA announced that they would no longer be making rally games, opting to give up the official WRC license. With this license and their other franchises like DiRT on ice, this left Codemasters with just the annual F1 games.
eXtas1s goes on to say that Codemasters main headquarters will be shut down and that the staff there “will be merged into EA Sports (F1) and a new Need for Speed that is already in development. Whether this means Codemasters will be formally shuttered or are being moved to a much smaller location remains to be seen.
EA paid a 1.2 billion dollars for Codemasters back in 2021.
