Infineon has announced a new entry in its PSOC microcontroller lineup, designed to drive industrial control and human-machine interface (HMI) projects: the PSOC 4100T Plus with Multi-Sense technology.
“Infineon is committed to delivering best-in-class system control and HMI solutions with enhanced reliability,” says Infineon’s Vibheesh Bharathan, who led the PSOC 4 Multi-Sense project. “Our Multi-Sense capability represents a paradigm shift, driving next-generation sensing solutions for HMI and system control use cases. In this way, we are enabling the digitalization solutions of tomorrow for consumer and industrial applications.”

The PSOC 4100T Plus, brought to our attention by CNX Software, is built around an Arm Cortes-M0+ core running at up to 48MHz, up to 32kB of static RAM (SRAM), and up to 128kB of flash memory. There’s a 12-bit successive-approximation (SAR) analog to digital converter (ADC), up to 53 general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins with eight “smart I/O” pins, and a fifth-generation CAPSENSE subsystem — offering support for up to 32 self-capacitive inputs, up to 256 mutual-capacitive inputs, or up to 16 inductive inputs.
Elsewhere in the chip is support for liquid level sensing, hover-touch sensing, six 16-bit time/counter/pulse-width modulator blocks, two serial communication blocks which can be configured as UART, I2C, or SPI buses, three dedicated UART buses, and what the company claims is “best-in-class signal-to-noise ratio.”
The company has also launched a multi-function development board built around the cheap, for ease of evaluation. (📷: Infineon)
The company is positioning the new part as not only suitable for use as a general-purpose microcontroller but as a way of bringing the bill of materials under control in a range of application-specific scenarios including being embedded in home appliances, consumer electronics, and driving touchpad and touchscreen applications.
More information is available on the PSOC 4100T Plus product page; the company has also launched a prototyping kit based around the chip, which is available to order direct at $19.93 plus shipping.
