Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been announced – can someone please explain the plot of these games to me?

A gruff man appears and gruffly tells you to gruff ‘em up. You grimace, gruffawingly. It can only mean one thing: Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been announced, showing off a flashy sci-fi trailer at the Xbox showcase.

A co-op campaign mode is planned, alongside the usual multiplayer and a zombies mode. As for whatever the hell is going on in the story, beats me. Every Call-o-dutes I play washes through my veins like some sort of feverish
hallucinogenic. Intriguing then, that this game seems to be embracing the series’ penchant for psychadelic moments.

“The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6,” explain mega-developers Activision. “Wielding cutting-edge technology, the Black Ops team led by David Mason must fight back against a manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else.”

That explains the trippy trailer then. Call Of Duty is fond of these psychological sequences, sometimes slotting them into the game during a contrived late-game twist. Maybe they’re about to make a whole damn game themed around that gimmick.
