Blink, the Amazon-owned company known for its affordable smart home security solutions, just announced its new next-generation Video Doorbell. It is packed with upgrades and a new Sync Module Core and will be available starting today.

It’s been nearly four years since Blink’s first video doorbell arrived, so this upgrade was long overdue. With the new second-generation release, our favorite budget video doorbell is getting upgraded, but it also comes with a slightly higher price point. The new Blink Video Doorbell 2nd Gen is $69.99 compared to the $49.99 starting price of the original.

That higher price has benefits, including a newly redesigned Sync Module Core that’s smaller and more efficient and helps improve battery life through improved sync performance. As for the video doorbell, owners will enjoy a longer and wider field of view that delivers a head-to-toe view of visitors coming to your home.

Don’t be limited by Wi-Fi reach.

To be more precise, the Blink Video Doorbell 2nd Gen has a larger 150-degree field of view, along with upgraded person detection, HD night vision improvements, and more. The previous model only offered 135-degree views. Interestingly enough, this new model uses three AA batteries, instead of only two, yet still has the same 2-year battery life claim. You’d think the extra juice would make it last longer.

However, that’s likely due to the larger field of view, not to mention the upgraded HD infrared night vision, which is an improvement over the original’s standard IR vision. The upgraded person detection uses computer vision, although, as usual, it’s only available with a higher-tier Blink subscription.

Here’s what Blink had to say about its newest release: “This doorbell is the newest device in Blink’s lineup, delivering essential home monitoring features. Greet guests and watch packages get delivered with a head-to-toe view, and experience easy set up with everything included in the box, including three AA lithium batteries and the Sync Module.”

Like most smart video doorbells, setup is a breeze and only takes a few minutes. Owners can easily install the Blink Video Doorbell 2nd gen wire-free or connect it to existing doorbell wiring. When wired, it’ll chime throughout your home as usual. However, those who choose the wireless route will get alerts on the Blink app or can use a Blink Mini 2 camera as an indoor chime.

Blink’s latest doorbell is available starting today for $69.99 in Black and White. Grab yours from the link below.
