There is no shortage of superhero movies and shows. In fact, plenty of those are based in the Batman universe. But even if you’re feeling fatigued by all that, Batman: Caped Crusader is an animation worth your time thanks to its cool noir style and reimagining of iconic characters. With each episode clocking in at around 25 minutes, it makes for an easy binge.

Caped Crusader is set in a suitably shadowy 1940s Gotham City, following the masked crime fighter in his early years as he comes up against villains like the Penguin, Firebug, and Harley Quinn. While each episode explores a different case, there is an overarching plot about politics and corruption. The show still has a welcome sense of comic book ridiculousness, but overall it leans more grounded and moody.

Caped Crusader acts as a spiritual successor to the 90s classic Batman: The Animated Series, so if you enjoyed that then you’ll find lots to like here. While Kevin Conroy is sadly no longer around to provide his voice for Bruce Wayne, Hamish Linklater does an excellent job, as do the likes of Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon and John DiMaggio as Harvey Bullock.

Jury Duty is a reality show with a crazy premise that immediately hooked me: a man is summoned for jury duty, unaware that the entire thing is a hoax and everyone around him is an actor.

That man is Ronald Gladden, a construction worker who genuinely thinks he’s part of a real trial. He’s made the foreperson and has to deal with a series of bizarre events inside and out of the courtroom—not least the fact that James Marsden, playing a parody of himself, is also part of the jury, alongside other colorful characters (my favorite being Todd, an awkward soul who uses two crutches to create chair pants that he calls “chants”).

I don’t usually like reality or prank shows because many of them are mean-spirited, but Jury Duty isn’t out to poke too much fun at Gladden, who seems like a decent person. Instead, much of the hilarity comes from the scripted moments, like when the prosecution plays a poorly animated video reconstructing the supposed crime or when Marsden is furious about not landing a movie role.

It’s particularly interesting to see how Gladden reacts to finding out everything is fake. The final episode, which shows how the production team pulled it off, is also neat.

A lot of video game adaptations are of questionable quality, but Fallout is a fantastic show that requires no prior knowledge of the franchise (though existing fans will find much to appreciate).

It’s set on Earth after the dropping of nuclear bombs in 2077. The story picks up a few hundred years later with Lucy, played wonderfully by Ella Purnell, a woman who lives in a bunker with other survivors. Something drives her above ground and she discovers a dangerous wasteland full of bandits and weird creatures.

The show also stars Walton Goggins as a gunslinging mutated human and Aaron Moten as a member of an organization called the Brotherhood of Steel, and it’s interesting to see how their stories converge.

Fallout may sound dark—and parts of it certainly are twisted and violent—but it also has a wicked sense of humor. It nicely satirizes consumerism and it’s particularly amusing to see how the sheltered Lucy copes with the bizarre world she encounters.
